I have always had a fascination with the French language. Too bad I did not study French at an early age! If that had been the case, then I would be speaking now the French language like the French do. Also, my French vocabulary would not only consist of “merci” and “beacoup.” Ugh. I took a French for my language elective last term. I am still in love with the language, but I am no longer in love with my teacher. Why not? Because he made French seem unreachable for Americans like myself. It is as if French is some sacred language that should be accessed only by those special, selected individuals. As if! My French teacher made us write essays in French even if most of us are just beginners. Well, he made us write a short essay paper on our affection with the French language. Luckily, I was able to look for a source which helped me with all those hard, and tongue-bending assignments. If I were to write my dissertation in French (that is, if I’d totally decide to shift into French), then I’d definitely need help for that dissertation writing. I am kinda worried, but I am sure if ever that would be my decision, there will always be help available.
